Bluffing in a No Limit Game

In all variations of Texas Hold'em games that are played online, (brick and mortar as well), limit poker may just be the most common type of poker played. Unlike NL (No Limit) where at any time you can shove your stack all-in and put your opponent to the money, more often than not your bluffs in limit games will consist of a single bet or raise. Because the betting is limited, bluffing may randomly get you in trouble as your opponents will often be willing to call down a single extra bet, especially in low limit games.

As you begin to log more hours online playing, you will find that one of the most exhilarating parts of playing in a game of Texas Hold'em poker is pulling off a good bluff. As you rake in the pot of a hand that you just won following a triumphant bluff, you will most certainly be feeling pretty good. However, you have to accept the bad with the good when it comes to bluffing.

The number one tip we can give you is: do the math. This is also called ‘gaming the odds’. Make sure to take time to study the board and then, consider what you are holding. Try and figure out what your opponent’s hand might be, and if the board is showing the possibility of an open ended straight, realize that there could be a lot of people that are able to beat your hand. If they are looking down at a straight while holding an Ace, King or Queen, then they are going to know that you are full of it. But if the board is a rainbow of suits and none of the others seem as if they have anything, then you just may have that perfect opportunity to bluff and win a pot despite the fact that you are holding junk.
